Jennifer Garner plays Jenny Perotti Connor's childhood sweetheart and first but lost love. Uncle Wayne's ghost appears to Connor and tells him of the impending visit by the three ghosts of girlfriends past. The problem is that Uncle Wayne is the one who gave Connor his rather skewed perspective on treating women. Michael Douglas stars as Connor's now deceased Uncle Wayne, the man who raised Connor after his parents death. The cast consists of several big screen veterans with smaller roles that combine to bring a little flair to the derived screenplay. As a result he is visited by three ghosts who take him on a journey through is past conquests in order to reveal to him what is truly important, love. It tells a Christmas Carol (Scrooge) style tale about a shallow and callous photographer named Connor Mead (McConaughy) who sees women as play things that he can throw away once he is done with them. Judging by the trailer and how it did at the box office I didn't have high expectations but the cast gave it promise. My wife is a big Matthew McConaughey fan so we all sat down to watch this when it arrived from Warner. It's the perfect comedy for anyone who believes in laughs and love. Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner and Michael Douglas and director Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Just Like Heaven) uncork a romantic romp as bubbly as wedding-toast champagne. But the ghost of his departed Uncle Wayne -who taught him to love 'em and leave 'em - has another goal in mind: restore Connor's lost faith in true love, a tough assignment requiring the services of many, many Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. So when he attends his brother's wedding he has a single goal: score with the only bridesmaid he somehow missed. Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Breckin Meyer Lacey Chabert, Robert Forster, Anne Archer, Michael Douglas, Emma Stoneīlu-ray Disc release Date: September 22, 2009Ĭonnor Mead is the kind of guy who dumps three girlfriends at the same time via teleconference. Her whole bubbly personality is a joy to watch and just makes the suffering of the main protagonist even more comical as she forces him to witness all parts of his past.Audio Format(s): English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, English/Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 She could have been in every scene and it would have been made a thousand times better. She is excitable and over the top bringing comedy and light-hearted humour whenever she is on screen. This is the ghost that needs most attention, the main reason for this? Oh, only because its Emma Stone! Emma Stone is the highlight of this romcom. You can quickly realise why Conor is the way he is. Douglas does play the self-righteous character well. The first ghost seen is his hero, his Uncle played by Michael Douglas. The majority of the film, as the name insists, is about the ghosts’ messages to Conor. But during this rather long time, the ending comes too soon. It takes a rather long time until the message settles in, which is realistic if you’re going to change your entire personality in one night. Instead, he’s rather irritating throughout the whole film and it’s completely understandable why he’s alone and shouldn’t get the girl! Where he is supposed to be learning a lesson by seeing the ghosts, his scared persona becomes annoying as he makes it all about him still. However, the issue lies in the fact that this character doesn’t really have any endearing qualities to latch onto, the audience sees no need for hope. I understand he’s supposed to be a pretty insufferable character in order to provoke the ‘three ghosts’ situation. Here lies the problem, Matthew McConaughey plays this character too well.
